Mitt Romney says former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shares the blame with President Barack Obama for the crisis in Ukraine, believing they had little understanding of the dynamics of the global balance of power.
"There's no question, but that over the four years where he and Secretary Clinton were working together, and now the year since then, it's hard to name a single country that holds America in more esteem and respect than when the president took office five years ago," the 2012 GOP presidential nominee said on Fox News' "Hannity" on Tuesday,
according to Politico.
Romney said the Obama administration has failed to use its influence to build respect and admiration around the world or to build up America's "hard power."
"I would not have given Russia the gifts that Secretary Clinton and President Obama gave Russia. This whole reset with the smiling pictures of them pressing the button, it's like, are you kidding me?" Romney said.
He added the administration appeared not to understand that Russia has divergent interests from America and intends to pursue those interests.
During the 2012 presidential campaign, Romney was mocked by Obama for asserting that Russia was America's top geopolitical foe. Pundits now say Russia's annex of Crimea is evidence that Romney's position has been vindicated.
