A Google image search for the term “completely wrong” turns up a series of photos of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Unlike other incidents of what are now known as Google bombs, the search result appears to be inadvertent and related to a comment Romney himself made and not part of a campaign to embarrass the former Massachusetts governor.
After his controversial secretly recorded comments about the 47 percent who would never vote for him, Romney later said his comments were “completely wrong.”
A Google spokesman told various news organizations that the search results were normal and not the result of nefarious actions.
Previously, a number of political figures, including former Presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, have fallen victims to Google bombs with their names showing up on top of searches for words like failure as a result of manipulation.
Perhaps the most famous case involves former Sen. Rick Santorum. Opponents of Santorum’s position on gay rights manipulated results so a search for his name would turn up a vulgar, sexually related description.
