Mueller Interviewed Former Trump Legal Spokesman

Mueller Interviewed Former Trump Legal Spokesman

By    |   Friday, 16 February 2018 01:19 PM EST

Special counsel Robert Mueller met with a former spokesman for President Donald Trump’s legal team on Thursday, The Daily Beast reports.

Mark Corallo left his position in July, but agreed to meet with Mueller after he was asked in January. Unnamed people "familiar with the matter" told the Daily Beast that Corallo spoke with Mueller for over two hours, and that he is not expected to return for a second interview.

The New York Times reported last month that Corallo planned to testify about a previously undisclosed phone call between White House communications director Hope Hicks and the president not long after Donald Trump Jr. met Russians with links to the Kremlin in 2016. On this phone call, Hicks reportedly claimed that the meeting "will never get out," which could indicate an intent to obstruct justice.

A lawyer for Hicks denied these claims in a statement to the Times in January.

"As most reporters know, it’s not my practice to comment in response to questions from the media. But this warrants a response," said attorney Robert P. Trout. "She never said that. And the idea that Hope Hicks ever suggested that emails or other documents would be concealed or destroyed is completely false."
