Florida Sen. Rick Scott Tuesday called for transparency concerning the spread of coronavirus after the deaths of two people in his state.
"I think the point is we have to get more information out to people," the Republican lawmaker, a former governor, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "The health and safety of Americans is the most important (matter)."
Scott said he's frustrated by the lack of information that has come out, particularly since one of the people who died was in the county next to his home location.
"I don't know to this day whether the people that were on the flight with this person if they've been informed," said Scott. "I have asked the CDC, HHS, Homeland Security, state and local officials. Let's get this information out so people can make a good decision."
Meanwhile, there is already some suggestion that Democrats may not push President Donald Trump's payroll tax cut plan through quickly, and Scott said he's worried about hourly workers.
"I want everybody in this country to do well financially. I'm very worried about our hourly workers, people that rely on tips, what this will do to them," said Scott. "But we should be all hands on deck on how do we solve the coronavirus issue. We should be telling people what have we learned that is working or not working? What are they doing in Italy working and not working? Let's focus all of our attention right now on how do we keep Americans safe and how do we keep Americans informed. That's my biggest focus."
