Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., urged Florida residents to get prepared for Hurricane Dorian.

Scott made his comments in a Thursday afternoon tweet after being briefed on the storm by Ken Graham, director of the National Hurricane Center.

He wrote: “Hurricane #Dorian is slow moving & picking up strength as it heads towards FL. Everyone should be ready. It has the potential for hurricane force winds & rain well inland from the coast. The time to get prepared is now!”

The hurricane center said Dorian could grow into a potentially devastating Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 130 mph before it makes landfall.
