Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., threw his support behind the Trump administration's decision to cancel grant funds for California high speed rail project and to seek the return of billions already spent on the project.
Scott announced his backing in a Tuesday tweet.
He wrote: "When I was Governor I declined funds for HSR in Florida b/c it wasted taxpayer $$ and left the people of FL on the hook. Now it's time for CA to give back the money."
On Twitter, Trump had claimed the "failed Fast Train project" was beset by "world record setting" cost overruns, and he said it had become "hundreds of times more expensive" than the planned wall on the southern border.
The Department of Transportation announced Tuesday it intends to cancel $929 million in federal grant funds yet to be paid for the project.
In addition, officials said they are exploring legal options to get California to return $2.5 billion in federal funds granted for the project.
