The Republican National Committee Thursday slammed a report by
Politico that the band Journey had been signed to perform at a $750,000 party planned for after the GOP's national convention in Cleveland in July, calling it "100 percent false."
"Earlier today, Politico falsely reported the RNC had signed the band Journey to play at an event around the convention in Cleveland," Katie Walsh, the committee's chief of staff, said in a statement. "This is 100 percent false."
Based on reporting "confirmed" by two sources, Politico said that Journey would perform at the "post-convention bash" at the State Theatre in Cleveland, capping the four-day Republican National Convention at the Quicken Loans Arena. As many as 1,300 people would attend the event, which was to be produced by Gravatt Entertainment.
The alleged after-party, Politico reports, "comes at a time when the party is stockpiling cash for the general election and is working to catch up to its cash position from previous election cycles."
However, the story also included Walsh's statement disputing the RNC's role in the event.
