Texas Gov. Greg Abbott put his signature on a religious freedom bill that is being dubbed the "Save Chick-fil-A" bill.

Among the numerous bills Abbott, a Republican, signed Tuesday was the piece of legislation that was put together after Chick-fil-A was denied a request to open a restaurant at San Antonio International Airport because of the company's stance opposing gay marriage.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the bill will go into effect Sept. 1. It will give companies and organizations the ability to take legal action against governments who they feel discriminated against them based on their religious beliefs.

Chick-fil-A is closed Sundays for religious reasons, and its COO Dan Cathy came under fire in 2012 after saying he opposed same-sex marriage.
