Qatari officials declined to hand over information about the United Arab Emirates' alleged influence on President Donald Trump's adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, NBC News reports.
Three unnamed sources with knowledge of the discussions told NBC that Qatar is reluctant to turn over evidence that allegedly shows the influence the UAE has over members of Trump's inner circle.
Earlier this month, The New York Times reported that special counsel Robert Mueller's team was looking into George Nader, a Lebanese-American businessman and adviser to the UAE crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, due to his frequent White House visits last year.
According to NBC's sources, Qatari officials considered providing evidence on alleged secret meetings between Kushner, Nader and Republican donor Elliott Broidy, in which UAE officials may have pushed the Trump administration to blockade Qatar as it did last year.
A spokesperson for Kushner's lawyer told NBC that he was "a point person for completely appropriate contacts from foreign officials and he did not mix his or his former company's business in those contacts and any claim otherwise is false."
