SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey car dealer who offered a free car to a Florida pastor if he promised not to burn the Quran says he never thought the pastor would do it.
The Rev. Terry Jones claims to have burned the Muslim holy book last month at his church.
A crowd angered by news of Jones' actions stormed a U.N. compound in northern Afghanistan on Friday. Seven foreigners and four protesters were killed.
Jones visited New Jersey in October to collect a new Hyundai Accent but immediately turned it over to a charity that helps battered women.
Ex-New York Giants tackle Brad Benson offered Jones the car in one of his quirky commercials.
Benson calls the Quran burning "deplorable" and says Jones should be held criminally liable for the deaths.
