Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is facing the fury of a popular pro-abortion rights group for opposing abortion rights for women infected with the Zika virus, as reported in the Politico.

According to sources, NARAL Pro-Choice America is reportedly spending $175,000 to air a TV ad in Orlando and West Palm Beach targeting the Republican senator.

Although Rubio has stood by every Zika funding proposal and helped it come through the Senate, the GOP majority failed to approve in June new emergency spending to fight the disease.

The pro-abortion rights group accused Rubio of "putting his agenda ahead of the health and safety of women and families."

"Marco Rubio voted against funding health clinics that provide critical care during this public health emergency. And Marco Rubio continues to be against a woman's right to choose an abortion, even if they are infected with the Zika virus," the ad says, according to Politico.

Congress, which returns from its summer recess Tuesday, will vote for or against the proposal.

When asked last month about abortion for women with Zika virus, Rubio said it was a "difficult question" and he would "err on the side of life." Rubio has maintained he opposes abortion in all cases including rape and incest.

He voted last year for a ban on abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy that included those exceptions, reasoning that it would help achieve fewer abortions.

"I'm pro-life. And I'm strongly pro-life. I believe all human life should be protected by our law, irrespective of the circumstances or condition of that life," Rubio had said.

Olivia Perez-Cubas, a spokeswoman for Rubio, added, "Marco was one of the first Republicans to support the president's funding request and has supported every single Zika proposal that has come up in the Senate."

Meanwhile, Rubio's general election opponent, Patrick Murphy, lashed out at the senator saying he was "extreme" on the issue.
