RNC's Priebus Will Announce Future Plans Next Week

Friday, 09 November 2012 05:33 PM EST

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus says he'll make a final decision next week on whether to run for a second term.

Sources say that Priebus is leaning towards another run at the post, and is getting plenty of support from Republicans who don't seem to blame him for Tuesday's election debacle for the GOP. Priebus has been getting calls and e-mails from committee members urging him to stay on, the Washington Post reports.

The former head of the Wisconsin Republican Party, Priebus took control of the RNC in 2011. He is widely credited with leading the committee out of debt incurred under former chairman Michael Steele and repairing relations with top Republicans.

The chairmanship is ultimately in the hands of those 168 members, who will vote on their new leader in January. Had Mitt Romney defeated President Obama on Tuesday, he would have chosen the party chairman.
