Pope Francis has reportedly refused a charitable donation from Argentinian President Mauricio Macri because the sum included the ungodly figure of "666."

Those three numbers together are interpreted as the infamous and evil "number of the beast" from the Book of Revelation in the New Testament.

The controversy began when Argentina's leader sent Rome a donation totaling 16,666,000 pesos — about $1.2 million — to help the Francis-backed Scholas Occurentes educational foundation.

According to the La Stampa newspaper's Vatican Insider, Francis ordered the money returned because "I don't like the 666."

Macri and Francis are said to have long been at odds over progressive issues in Argentina.
The Guardian reports Macri's critics believe the pope's snub "reflected his distaste for the president's introduction of swinging austerity measures, such as a 500 percent hike in home power rates and a 100 percent increase in transport fares."
