More than half — 51% — of Americans say they pay more than their fair share of income taxes, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports.
The number is down from an all-time high of 62% who felt the same way in a 2022 Rasmussen Reports poll.
Here are how the survey results, released Friday, break down:
- 26% do not believe they pay more than their fair share.
- 22% are uncertain.
- 52% of Republicans say they pay more than their fair share of taxes.
- 50% of Democrat say they pay too much in taxes.
- 49% of independents say they pay too much.
- 44% say those who make twice as much as they do aren’t paying twice as much in taxes.
- 30% say those who earn twice as much are paying at least twice as much in taxes as they do.
The poll, conducted Jan. 18-19, surveyed 1,000 American adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
