An ABC News/Washington Post public opinion poll finds that President Barack Obama fails to top 50 percent approval on three of the main issues that he has touted in his bid for re-election.
Americans are divided almost evenly on the administration’s economic stimulus program, with 47 percent see it favorably and 48 percent unfavorably.
The president fairs slightly better on the auto industry loans, getting 50 to 43 percent approval.
On the third issue, financial industry regulation, he scores 49 percent approval with 44 percent opposed.
Middling ratings underscore the president’s challenges in the campaign, ABC says. "While he’s substantially more popular personally than the presumptive Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, Obama is vulnerable on key issues."
This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted fromMay 2-6, 2012, among a random national sample of 1,006 adults.
