Most voters in a new poll from the Trafalgar Group said that federal and state governments should not invest taxpayer money in companies with ties to China.
The survey found that about 3-in-4 voters say the U.S. government or any state government should not invest taxpayer money in companies or funds with connections to China. Those voting no: 74.1%. Those voting yes, 25.9%.
More than half of Democrats, three-quarters of independents, and 4-in-5 Republicans agree that federal and state governments should not invest in companies or funds with ties to China.
- Democrats: 64.8%.
- Republicans: 81.5%.
- Independents: 75.2%.
A second poll from the same group found that most voters also say the U.S. should prevent construction on or deliveries to and from Chinese-owned properties near U.S. military bases: yes, 76.3%; no, 23.7%.
"Removing TikTok from government devices — while grossly overdue — is at least a tiny step in the right direction. But this poll reveals that voters want both Washington, D.C., and state governments to be much, much more aggressive in cutting business and investment ties with Chinese backed companies," said Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action which commissioned the poll.
He went on to say that "TikTok should be completely banned from the U.S. on every level. The CCP has banned it in China, and yet is allowed to use the platform as a spying, data collection, and psychological warfare tool against our own country.
"Removing CCP-backed infrastructure, operations, products and influence from the U.S. is going to be a herculean task. Chinese companies, and CCP front companies, have deep — and not always easy to find — connections on many levels. We have never had a national enemy so deeply embedded in so many aspects of American society.
"The good news is, at a time when all we hear about is how divided we are, the American people are united in their desire to remove malign Chinese Communist Party influence from our country."
The Trafalgar Group surveyed over 1,000 likely general election voters across the country from February 22-23, 2023, with no margin of error given.
