President Donald Trump's White House is more trusted than the national political media, according to a new poll from Morning Consult.
The majority of respondents said that the media "is out of touch with everyday Americans," and more rated the White House as a more trustworthy source than the media.
The results:
- 29 percent said they trust the national political media to tell the truth.
- 37 percent said they trust the White House.
- 34 percent said they don't know which to trust more.
Those figures were starkly divided among partisan lines. Republicans overwhelmingly chose Trump over the media:
- 10 percent trust the media.
- 72 percent trust the White House.
- 18 percent don't know.
While Democrats favor the media, they're less one-sided in their support.
- 54 percent trust the media.
- 12 percent trust the White House.
- 34 percent don't know.
Over half of independents doubt the media's coverage of the White House. Just under that said the media is out of touch, and 43 percent said the news has been overly hard on Trump compared to his predecessors.
