A parrot was taken into police custody after it warned alleged police were coming, and almost foiled an undercover raid!
Authorities said the quirky bird nearly foiled a drug raid in Brazil by squawking "Mama, Police!" in Portuguese to its owners, NBC News reported.
Despite the talkative parrot's warning, police apprehended a man and woman. They also recovered drugs including crack and marijuana from the property as well as large amounts of money, local media reported. Police believe the parrot, who was taken into custody along with its owners, was trained to spot police cars.
"As soon as the police got close he started shouting," said an officer involved in the operation, according to The Guardian.
The chirpy parrot has decided to remain loyal to its owners and is keeping its beak shut. One local reporter who was at the police station said the winged wrongdoer has not made a sound since it has been in custody. Local vet, Alexandre Clark, told a similar story.
"Lots of police officers have come by and he’s said nothing," Clark said, according to The Guardian.
The parrot, which is being kept at a Teresina zoo, is not the first to be taken into custody for being involved in a drug syndicate. A few years ago, Lorenzo made headlines as a lookout parrot that had a knack of foiling drug raids in Colombia.
As soon as the bird spotted police, it would squawk "run, run, the cat is going to get you!," The Daily Mail reported. However, police eventually got the upper hand when they snuck past the vigilant lookout to raid a safe house in Barranquilla.
