In a series of tweets Friday, former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, who describes herself as a close friend of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, called on Jeremy Corbyn to become Britain's prime minister and demanding Assange be given "safe passage to Australia" while blaming his potential expulsion from Ecuador's embassy in London on President Donald Trump.
The tweets were posted as WikiLeaks reported that Ecuador was to expel Assange from its London embassy within "hours to days," a claim Ecuador has denied, reports London's Daily Express.
Anderson first posted "Brexit OUT United Kingdom wants to stay IN the EU - Teresa May OUT, Jeremy Corbyn IN, Grant Julian Assange safe passage to Australia."
In another tweet, she said the United States was to blame for the rumored expulsion, saying that Trump was ineffective and "meddling" and that the United States had been engaging in "threatening behavior" to "bully" Ecuador with "severe sanctions/taxes."
Ecuador's foreign ministry has issued a statement saying it does not comment on "rumors, theories or conjectures that don’t have any documented backing.”
Assange has been at the London embassy building since 2012, but if he leaves, he'll likely face arrest through a warrant that remains in effect through the city's police department.
He first sought refuge at the embassy after Swedish authorities said they wanted to question him over allegations of sexual assault, but that case was dropped in 2017. However, he does believe that he'll be extradited to the United States to face charges for leaking government information.
Last week, Anderson tweeted a picture of herself with Assange, saying she hasn't been able to visit him for a year.
