Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the gunman who shot and killed a Canadian soldier before storming Parliament Hill, recorded a brief video manifesto citing Allah and criticizing Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s foreign policy.
The video was played publicly by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on Friday for the first time since the Oct. 22 attack, which ended when Zehaf-Bibeau died in a shootout with security officials. The Ottawa attack killed Corporal Nathan Cirillo and injured a House of Commons guard.
“To those who are involved and listen to this movie, this is in retaliation for Afghanistan and because Harper wants to send his troops to Iraq,” Zehaf-Bibeau said in the video, which has been distributed to reporters.
Paulson, who broadcast the video at a parliamentary hearing, told lawmakers he couldn’t disclose why investigators edited 13 seconds at the beginning of the video and 5 seconds at the end.
