Ohio Revises Medical Trans Intervention Rules, Adults Exempt

The administration of Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine has revised its approach for transgender treatment, no longer pursuing regulations that would have limited medical interventions for adult gender transition, CBS News reported.

In a memo issued Wednesday, the Ohio Department of Public Health stated, "The revised quality standard rules are now applicable only to care for minors."

Only minors would be subject to undergo a six-month review process by psychiatrists, endocrinologists, and medical ethicists to determine if gender-altering hormones could be prescribed.

However, as noted in the memo, the requirement to undergo review by "medical ethics professionals" has been removed. These changes come as Ohio prepares to enforce a new law banning gender-transition surgeries and hormone therapies for minors, except for those already receiving treatment. The revised rules are moving forward to the next review stage.
