Fifty-one percent of voters approve of the new NFL policy requiring players on the field to stand for the national anthem, while 42 percent are against it, a new Quinnipiac University poll reveals.
Here are highlights from the survey released on Thursday:
- 58 percent of American voters say those NFL players who kneel in protest during the anthem are not unpatriotic, while 35 percent say they are
- 53 percent say a professional athlete has the right to protest on the playing field or court, while 43 percent disagree
- 51 percent say players oppose NFL teams fining any players who do not stand for the anthem, while 44 percent approve of it
The poll also questioned people’s attitudes regarding Roseanne Bar in light of her racially charged tweet about Valerie Jarret a former adviser in the Obama White House.
- 48 percent agree with ABC’s decision to cancel her show, while 34 percent disagree
- 15 percent have a favorable opinion of Barr, compared to 51 percent who view her unfavorably
The poll, conducted May 31-June 5, surveyed 1,223 voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
