Newt Gingrich mouthed the word "no" Thursday when asked if Steve Bannon could survive his battle with President Donald Trump, the Washington Examiner reported.
The Trump surrogate and former House speaker made the gesture as he was leaving the Capitol after a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Examiner reported.
"Well, I think Bannon has lost his mind, so that was an accurate tweet," Gingrich told reporters, referring to Trump's statement Wednesday that Bannon "lost his mind" after losing his job as chief strategist.
Bannon takes center stage in an explosive new book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," detailing the Trump presidency, saying that Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russians was "treasonous" and that Ivanka Trump is "dumb as a brick."
Gingrich on Wednesday told Fox News that Trump "won the nomination without Bannon. Trump would have won the presidency without Bannon. And Trump has governed without Bannon."
"Bannon has an exaggerated sense of self-importance, and the news media, of course, builds it up, because it's exactly, in the age of the Kardashians, the kind of nonsense that they love to fill time and space with," Gingrich told Neil Cavuto.
