Scaramucci to Bannon: 'Stop Running Your Mouth,' 'Knock off the Nonsense'

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci had his own harsh response for Steve Bannon on Thursday — "stop running your mouth . . . and knock off the nonsense."

Scaramucci made the comments on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" morning show, one of two morning shows the former communications director of 11 days appeared on to knock down the veracity of a new book that paints President Donald Trump and his family in a negative light.

Bannon is quoted copiously in the upcoming Steve Wolff book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," most notably that Donald Trump Jr.'s 2016 meeting with Russians was "treasonous" and that Ivanka Trump is "dumb as a brick."

Scaramucci told Fox News what he would say to Bannon:

"Drop the nonsense, apologize to everybody, rejoin the team," Scaramucci said on "Fox and Friends." "I don't know what jersey you're wearing but you're not wearing our jersey, and we're wearing Team America's jersey . . . Be a team player and knock it off.

"You're losing your access to the White House the way you're running your mouth," he continued. "So why don't you stop running your mouth and get to a good life coach and knock off the nonsense."

Story continues below video.

Scaramucci also appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" to refute key assertions in Wolff's book:

That Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russians was treasonous: "The treasonous comment is absolutely ridiculous. I didn’t go to that meeting. But to say somebody is treasonous in doing something against the interests of the United States because they took a meeting is absolutely ridiculous."

That Trump didn't really want to win: "He's somebody who wanted the presidency. This whole narrative that no one in the campaign thought he was going to win and he didn't think he was gonna win, I honestly don't buy it. I was there, I saw the whole thing."

That key members of Trump's administration, including Steve Mnuchin, H.R. McMaster and former chief of staff Reince Priebus called Trump an idiot, dumb or a dope: "I don't think any of those people think the president's an idiot, dumb or dope . . . You cannot be dumb to win the presidency. You know he's not dumb, I know he's not dumb."

But Scaramucci saved most of his ammo for Bannon, about whom he vented to The New Yorker that cost him his job after just 11 days.

"I think some people have a tendency to over-exaggerate their roles," he said on "Good Morning America." "The president said he was a leaker, said he cared only about himself and was focused on his own brand . . . I more or less said the exact same thing. That tells you something about how he was operating inside the White House.

And after excerpts came out Wednesday detailing what Bannon said in the book, Scaramucci said the president had no choice but to put Bannon in his place.

"He probably felt that way privately about him but he was trying to keep the peace," he said. "But when you have a lone wolf like that operating rogue against the president's interest, he had no choice but to do what he did yesterday."
