Donald Trump is offering Americans a "dynamic vision of getting things done," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday, and he and other Washington outsiders are capturing the attention of Americans in a way that's changing the way the election will go.

"People are sick of Washington policy talk," said Gingrich, himself a presidential candidate in 2012, on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program. "They're sick of politicians who talk in general terms."

But it's not only Trump, but also Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, said Gingrich, who "really are different" and are getting about 60 percent of the vote.

While some analysts have been saying that the Trump bump will end now that Labor Day is over, Gingrich said he's not so sure.

"If it were only Trump, I would say sure," said Gingrich. "Rudy Giuliani was way ahead in 2008 and it didn't work. But you have Trump, Fiorina doing well and Carson in second place in the country.... Frankly if I were a traditional political leader, I would be frustrated trying to figure out the message that's going to break through in this environment."

He also doesn't think some of the statements that put Trump in the news, including questions from conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt about the names of various terrorism figures, will hurt him in the long run.

"I think people get it that the president of United States is not picked to win 'Jeopardy,'" said Gingrich. "He's not picked for Trivial Pursuit. The real question is what are you going to do to move America to a better, stronger future."

Gingrich also said he doesn't think Vice President Joe Biden should mount a race, as the nation seems to be looking for someone "new and different."

"He's had a great career and done well," said Gingrich. "I think he will be disappointed if he runs."
