Follow Newsmax's Coverage of Tuesday's Primaries

By    |   Tuesday, 04 June 2024 12:53 PM EDT

Newsmax is covering six primaries on Tuesday, including the pivotal Republican Senate contest in Montana, with Election Ticker and Election Desk reports beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

In addition to Montana, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Iowa, New Mexico, and South Dakota are all holding primaries on Tuesday. Polls in Jersey, D.C. and the eastern part of South Dakota close at 8 p.m. ET; Iowa, New Mexico and the western part of South Dakota all close at 9 ET; Montana polls close at 10 ET.

It's in Montana where Tim Sheehy, who has the support of Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, is taking on former Secretary of State Brad Johnson and Charles Walking Child for the right to face incumbent Democrat Sen. Jon Tester in November.

Montana is one of a handful of Senate races in November that will determine if Republicans will be able to reclaim the majority outright in the upper chamber. West Virginia will go Republican, with the retirement of Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin, putting the Senate at 50-50. Republicans need one more race to go their way to avoid the tiebreaking vote of the vice president, should Trump lose in the general election.

Also in Montana, eight GOP candidates are running to replace retiring Rep. Matt Rosendale in the 2nd Congressional District. State Auditor Troy Downing has the overwhelming lead in the polls over closest challengers Elsie Arntzen and Ken Bogner. Rosendale did not endorse anybody.

In New Jersey, Tuesday centers on Sen. Bob Menendez and his son, Rep. Rob Menendez, as well as President Joe Biden vs. the "uncommitted" vote. Andy Kim is the favorite to earn the Democratic nod to replace Sen. Menendez in Tuesday's primary. However, the elder Menendez is expected to be on the ballot in November as an independent. Rep. Menendez is facing a tight challenge — and in fact trailing in polls — from Hoboken, New Jersey, Mayor Ravi Bhalla in the 8th Congressional District.

In Iowa, incumbent Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks is being challenged by David Pautsch in the Republican primary in District 1. Miller-Meeks defeated Democrat Rita Hart by just six votes in 2020. Pautsch is endorsed by Mike Lindell and Mike Huckabee

In Iowa's 3rd, Republican incumbent Rep. Zach Nunn awaits the winner of Tuesday's Democratic primary between Lanon Baccam and Melissa Vine. Incumbent Republican Rep. Randy Feenstra is expected to defeat his challenger in Iowa's 4th, Kevin Virgil.
