New Yorker Cover Depicts American Presidents' Reactions to Trump

The New Yorker magazine's latest cover depicts a political cartoonist's vision of five of America's greatest presidents' watching GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump with looks of dismay and alarm — including a caricature of George Washington slapping his hand to his face.


"In most historical portraits, Presidents are noble and dignified," cartoonist Barry Blitt says of his cover, titled "Bad Reception," which was tweeted out Monday.

"My biggest challenge was to alter the Presidents' expressions to make them reflect attitudes of consternation."

The presidents drawn were John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Washington.

Roosevelt's signature cigarette-in-a-holder is seen popping out of his mouth, Lincoln's eyebrows are squeezed up, and Kennedy is drawn tearing into a package of antacids as they crowd around a TV to watch Trump.

"Teddy Roosevelt generally looks angry and somewhat appalled, so he was the easiest," Blitt says, the magazine reports.
