New Yorkers are letting Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio know they're unhappy with him – at a baseball game, around the halls of justice and in a new poll showing his job approval at its lowest since he took office.
According to a
Wall Street Journal-NBC New York-Marist survey released late Thursday, just 35 percent of residents describe the liberal mayor's job performance as excellent or good, while 62 percent describe it as fair or poor. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
"He came in with a big wave of enthusiasm, but the reality has set in," Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute of Public Opinion, tells the Journal. "De Blasio has had a lot of bumps in the road."
The poll capped an altogether lousy week for the mayor.
Last Friday, at the Mets' home opener at Citi Field, de Blasio – a Red Sox fan – was booed by fans for the third straight year,
New York Magazine reports.
The very next day, de Blasio – and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton – took heat for an awkward
"colored-people time" joke at the annual roast by City Hall reporters.
And in the wake of a
New York Post report of a federal inquiry in de Blasio's campaign fundraising,
Politico New York revealed that U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara is looking into the de Blasio administration's lifting of a deed restriction on a nursing home that's scheduled to be converted to luxury condos.
