New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan arrived at the Pro Bowl in Orlando, Fla., wearing a T-shirt that slammed the referees for missing an obvious pass interference call in last week’s fourth quarter of the NFC Championship game that many people say cost his team the game against the Los Angeles Rams, Yahoo reported on Sunday.
His T-shirt read, “Blow Whistles Not Games” in big and bold letters. Underneath that slogan in smaller letters was an additional dig at the officiating, “Make Calls Not Apologies” with a picture of a shrugging referee in the middle.
Jordan’s protest represented the continued seething frustration of the Saints and their fans over what they consider a trip to the Super Bowl that was unfairly taken away from them and is another indication that players and supporters are not going to forget about the crucial blown call anytime soon.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has still not given an official statement on the missed call, which has left Saints backers even more dismayed, according to Sports Illustrated.
Jordan’s protest is just the latest in a long line of Saints players, personnel and supporters who have spoken out against the missed call, The New Orleans Advocate reported.
This included a lawsuit filed demanding full refunds to the Saints' 72,475 ticket holders, delaying the Super Bowl scheduled for next Sunday and replaying the final minutes of the playoff game against the Rams.
