Former President Barack Obama is in talks with Netflix to produce a series of shows that will highlight "storytelling to inspire," The New York Times reported.
Under terms of a proposed — but still not finalized — deal, Netflix would pay Obama and his wife, Michelle, for exclusive content that would be available only on the streaming service, which has nearly 118 million subscribers globally.
There is no decision on the number of episodes or formats — but they will not be political, the Times reported.
The Times, citing unnamed sources familiar with discussions about the programming, reported the Obamas talked about producing shows that highlight inspirational stories.
"President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire," Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president, told the Times.
"Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories."
Executives from Apple and Amazon have taken notice, and might be interested in talking with Obama about deals, the Times reported.
