There are now more Netflix subscribers in the United States than subscribers to major cable TV networks, according to a new report.
Engadget cites numbers from the Leichtman Research Group that show Netflix subscriber figures in the first quarter of 2017 were at 50.85 million, compared to 48.61 million who were subscribed to major cable TV networks.
The figures also show there were 33.19 million subscribers of satellite TV.
Other data in the report:
- There were 1.36 million Sling TV subscribers, an internet-based service.
- There were 375,000 DirecTV Now subscribers, another internet-based service.
- Conventional sources of television programming lost 760,000 in the first quarter.
Another recent report showed television networks are losing viewers — notably in season finale shows.
