Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, serving 35 years for leaking classified information to WikiLeaks, could have her sentence shortened, NBC News reports.

"I have more hope right now than I have the entire time since she was sentenced," Manning's aunt, Deborah Manning, told NBC News. "I do think it's the last hope for a while."

President Obama could make his decision as soon as Wednesday, NBC reported.

Manning, who announced that he was transitioning to become a women the day after his sentencing in 2010, had stolen 700,000 diplomatic cables and military files and given them to WikiLeaks. He has served seven years of his sentence and, attempted suicide twice in that time span.

"I'm sorry," Manning said at the time of the sentencing. "I'm sorry that my actions hurt people. I'm sorry that they hurt the United States. I understand that I must pay the price for my decisions and actions."

Manning, according to her lawyers, has served the longest sentence of "any other whistleblower in American history."

"After this case, I had to tell Chelsea: 'I've represented murderers. I've represented rapists. I've represented child molesters. And none of them received 35 years,'" defense lawyer David Coombs told NBC News.
