A majority of Republicans don’t believe Russia interfered in the 2016 election, a new survey has found.
The HuffPost/YouGov survey also showed 43 percent of Republicans think Special Counsel Robert Mueller will conclude no one involved in the campaign for President Donald Trump broke any laws, despite several guilty pleas already.
Here’s the breakdown:
- 54 percent of Republicans say Russia didn’t interfere in the presidential election; 27 percent believe Russia did play a role; the remainder are unsure.
- 43 percent of Republicans think Mueller’s probe will conclude nobody on the Trump campaign committed any crimes. An additional 38 percent expect the probe will find Trump campaign members – but not Trump himself – committed crimes. Six percent expect Mueller to implicate the president.
- 80 percent of Democrats and half of the public overall say they believe Russia interfered in the election.
- 60 percent of Democrats and 70 percent of voters who picked Hillary Clinton say they believe Mueller will conclude Trump committed crimes.
- 38 percent of Americans approve of the FBI’s handling of the Russia investigation; 37 percent disapprove.
- Almost three-quarters of Trump voters believe the FBI is biased against Trump; 34 percent have a fair amount of trust in the FBI.
- 84 percent of Clinton voters have a fair amount of trust in the FBI; two-thirds expect the agency to deal fairly with Trump.
The Huffington Post reported the survey consisted of 1,000 interviews from a sample selected to match the demographics and other characteristics of the adult U.S. population.
