When Montana's absentee voting system went live at 8 a.m. Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris' name was conspicuously absent, according to the Washington Examiner.
A glitch in the system — which allows certain registered voters to cast their ballot electronically — resulted in Harris being erased altogether, leaving former President Donald Trump and former independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the only presidential candidates for voters to pick from.
The program was shut down to troubleshoot as soon as reports of the missing Democrat candidate reached the secretary of state's office. It was reportedly restored by Friday afternoon.
"No, Montana did not leave a candidate off the 2024 General Election ballot," Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen said in a statement Monday morning. "Contrary to egregious misinformation campaigns circulating online, the Montana Secretary of State's Office certified all qualified candidates to appear on its 2024 General Election ballot. No ballots were affected, including those that will be sent to registered absentee voters and those that will be presented to voters at the polling place on Election Day."
Impacted voters were able to recast their ballots, which had been corrected to include the full slate of presidential candidates, later in the day.
The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act allows American citizens who are on active duty or abroad the opportunity to vote within 45 days of the election.
In-person absentee voting will begin on Oct. 7, with absentee voting continuing until Election Day on Nov. 5.
