Conservative commentator Michael Reagan doled out some advice to President Donald Trump ahead of his D-Day speech later this week: stick to the script.

Reagan was on Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now" and talked about the 75th anniversary of D-Day, which will be commemorated in Normandy on Thursday. Trump will give a speech to mark the occasion.

"You might remember, my father was the first sitting president to visit Normandy on D-Day. And he really set a precedent for every president since then," Reagan said. "I was there when Barack Obama was there for the 70th, this president will be there on the 75th anniversary.

"And Donald Trump, let's admit it, has a tendency to make things about himself. On Thursday, D-Day, it is not about Donald Trump. It's going to be about those [Army] Rangers. It's going to be about those who landed and took back the world, saved France, saved the world on that day. That's who it's going to be about."

Reagan added he hopes Trump does not use the opportunity to play politics.

"If I'm the speechwriter, I'm telling the president of the United States . . . pay attention to the teleprompter," Reagan said. "Do not go off script on that day. Stay to the script."

Trump arrived in London on Monday and attended a state dinner in his honor with Queen Elizabeth II and their respective entourages. He will stay in England until traveling across the English Channel to attend the D-Day ceremonies later in the week.
