Michael Cohen is considering providing information on President Donald Trump and his business dealings to special counsel Robert Mueller's office as he feels "let down and isolated by," the president, according to Cohen's friends who spoke with CNN.
Cohen, Trump's longtime former personal attorney, is willing to help the investigation to alleviate pressure on himself and his family along with his financial situation – he said his legal fees are "bankrupting him," according to a source who spoke with The Wall Street Journal. Cohen is being investigated for possible campaign finance law violations and improper lobbying activities.
"He knows a lot of things about the President and he's not averse to talking in the right situation," one of Cohen's New York friends told CNN. "If they want information on Trump, he's willing to give it."
"He feels let down by him and isolated by him," another friend of Cohen's told CNN.
The report comes the same day Vanity Fair reported Cohen hired Guy Petrillo, a former federal prosecutor, to represent him in the criminal investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
Trump told reporters last Friday that Cohen was no longer his lawyer.
"I always liked Michael Cohen," he said. "I haven't spoken to Michael in a long time."
