Nearly eight in 10 Republican voters think the media make up stories about President Donald Trump, according to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday.
The results show Trump's mantra about "fake news" is having an impact, according to Politico:
- 46 percent of voters overall think the media fabricate stories about Trump.
- 37 percent of voters overall think the media do not.
- 17 percent are undecided.
- 76 percent of Republicans think media makes up stories.
- 44 percent of Independents think media makes up stories.
However, just 28 percent believe Trump should have the power to revoke FCC licenses from media organizations that are licensed, TV networks notwithstanding.
"Voters, particularly Trump supporters, have become disenchanted with the national media," Kyle Dropp, chief research officer and co-founder of Morning Consult, said in the survey. "Even 20 percent of Democrats think that the national media fabricate stories on President Trump and his administration."
Though 65 percent of Democrats do not believe media fabricate stories.
The poll was conducted Oct. 12-16, surveying 1,991 registered voters. The margin of sampling error is 2 percentage points.
