McMorris Rodgers: GOP Must Write 'Specific Replacement' to Obamacare

By    |   Sunday, 14 February 2016 05:24 PM EST

Vowing to enact "patient-centered healthcare" reform, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers said Sunday that that Republicans have "failed to deliver" an answer to Obamacare.

"We've got to write the specific replacement to the Affordable Care Act," the Washingon Republican said on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.

"We've talked about repealing Obamacare, we’ve taken votes, we’ve put the bill on the president’s desk to repeal Obamacare, but we need to put forward, 'What is the future of healthcare?'"

The law as written is forcing premiums and other costs to go up, she told host John Catsimatidis.

McMorris Rodgers suggested a tax credit that would allow individuals or families to go into the marketplace themselves and find the plan they want instead of the government or a bureaucrat making that decision for them.

The congresswoman also said she wants to roll back the FDA's new authority under Obamacare to force restaurants to provide calorie counts.

The plan as written is "impossible" to implement, she said, citing Domino's Pizza, which said said has 37 million different possible combinations for their pizza toppings.

"And the FDA is proposing right now that they should put those calorie counts on a menu board in their stores. It's just impossible," she said.

Domino's has an app that allows customers to figure out their calorie count as they add toppings, but the FDA won't accept that as meeting their requirements, she said.
