In the wake of the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion revealing the high court is likely to overturn Roe v. Wade, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot issued a "call to arms."
The Democrat tweeted on Monday night: "To my friends in the LGBTQ+ community—the Supreme Court is coming for us next. This moment has to be a call to arms."
She added in another tweet: "We will not surrender our rights without a fight—a fight to victory."
Lightfoot was elected in 2019 and became the first openly gay person to head Chicago, according to the Washington Examiner.
Meanwhile, Lightfoot announced on Monday that $500,000 will be spent to support reproductive healthcare throughout the city for Chicagoans and those living in neighboring states where abortion might be outlawed, CBS News is reporting.
"That includes access to transportation, lodging, care, and, if necessary, safe and legal access to an abortion procedure," Lightfoot said.
In another tweet, she pitched her city to women who may be seeking an abortion.
"As mayor, I have one message to anyone worried about access to abortion care," Lightfoot said. "Chicago's doors are open. We unequivocally respect you, and your choices."
