London Mayor Sadiq Khan is the first Muslim chief executive of a major Western capital, and now he wants his city to be the first international location of the NFL's Super Bowl.
Khan told U.K.-based Talksport he also wants London to have its own NFL team.
"My ambition is to have more American football games in London and ultimately for there to be a franchise and, dare I say it, even the Super Bowl," Khan said.
NFL games have been contested in London since 2007. The 2018-19 season will feature three games at Tottenham and Wembley Stadiums.
Khan said he'd eventually like to have eight games played in London, which equals the number of home regular season games each NFL team plays.
"I met recently one of the owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Shahid Khan. I've met the NFL commissioner on a number of occasions, most recently at the game at Twickenham this year, and my team is working very closely with the NFL," Khan said.
Last season's National Anthem protests that plagued the NFL were not limited to games in the United States, as roughly two dozen players opted to take a knee during a game in London.
