LIGNET: War Criminal Leads Arab League Observers in Syria

The choice of a notorious Sudanese general to head the Arab League observer mission in Syria may have sunk prospects for an Arab solution there, according to a new LIGNET intelligence analysis.

But there may be another reason Lt. Gen. Mohemed al-Dabi was dispatched to Syria. Yes, he was the creator of the junjawiid, the Arab militias that exterminated whole villages in Darfur starting in 1999. But the Arab League may consider that his record has been successful, and that he has something important to share with the Syrian government.
