LIGNET: The Next President of Iran Will be a Tool of Khamenei

Iran's Guardian Council on Wednesday approved just eight candidates out of 686 who registered to run in next month’s presidential election to succeed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

All of them are allied with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, indicating an aggressive push by Khamenei and his band of conservative clerics to consolidate their control of the country and prevent any more stirrings of a popular, democratic movement that could challenge them.
