Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman on Sunday called for the creation of a national commission on mass violence “to make sure that the heartbreak and the anger that we feel now is not dissipated over time or lost in legislative gridlock.”
Lieberman, appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” also reiterated his belief that a ban should be placed on assault-weapons manufacturing and sales in the United States.
“This is evil,” he told host Chris Wallace. “We’ve been through this before too many times.”
The entertainment industry, specifically the makers of video games, needs to be approached by U.S. leaders with the common goal of quelling an environment of virtual violence, Lieberman said.
“The violence in the entertainment culture . . . does cause vulnerable young men, particularly, to be more violent,” he said.
“It’s a causative factor, in some cases, and we’ve got to ask the entertainment industry, ‘What are you going to do try to tone that down?’”
