Rep. Lee Zeldin, who is one of two Jewish Republicans in the House, said Thursday it's "crazy" that President Donald Trump is being accused of anti-Semitism after saying that Jewish voters who vote for Democrats are being disloyal to Israel and other Jewish people.
"He has secured victories for that relationship, aligning the U.S. and Israel," the New York lawmaker told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
Trump has followed through on many promises, including moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and focusing on defeating anti-Semitism at home and abroad, Zeldin added.
He admitted that he wouldn't have spoken of disloyalty, as there has been a long history of people using that word with bad intent and hatred toward Israel and Jewish people.
But the definition of anti-Semitism means hatred toward Jews, and Trump has none of it, said Zeldin.
"His grandchildren, his daughter, his son-in-law are Jewish," said Zeldin.
Democrats, however, have been "providing cover" for Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, said Zeldin, "and that hypocrisy is part of the fall out as well."
"They are constantly on the attack, both of them, and they never call out anything with regards to Hamas, which is a designated foreign terrorist organization, Hezbollah, and people to incite violence," said Zeldin.
He also called for New York Times politics editor Tom Wright-Piersanti to be fired, after reports showed he posted racist and anti-Semitic tweets on his Twitter account about a decade ago.
"He was self-describing himself as an anti-Semite and he was going after Jews and others,” said Zeldin.
