A Democratic strategist accused President Donald Trump of giving North Korean leader Kim Jong Un credence as a world leader in the wake of another missile test by the rogue nation.
Kevin Chavous told Hill.TV that the talks between the Trump administration and Kim's regime over the latter's nuclear weapons program will not prevent it from continuing to build nuclear weapons.
"More than anything Trump sitting down with him validated him, gave him the ability to project himself as on the same level as the American president," Chavous said on "Rising."
He added that the nuclear talks, which have stalled in recent months, "won't stop him from trying to develop a nuclear weapon, which is what they're continuing to do so I'm just not surprised at all."
Chavous' last remark was in regards to North Korea's missile test on Thursday, the second such test in a week. Trump and Kim met nearly one year ago at the Singapore summit and appeared to make progress on the nuclear talks, but a second summit held earlier this year ended early when Trump walked away from the negotiating table.
After last week's missile test, Trump said he does not believe Kim will break a "promise to me" regarding denuclearization efforts.
