Kari Lake, a former Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate, told Newsmax on Friday she is seriously considering a run for the state’s U.S. Senate seat in 2024. The seat is currently occupied by Democrat-turned-independent Kyrsten Sinema.
“There's been no secret people have asked me about running for U.S. Senate,” Lake told “American Agenda.” “We have a Senate seat that we could take and put in an America First senator there.
“We desperately need some people who are going to put the citizens of their state first when they go to the federal government, go off to the Senate or the House, so I'm seriously contemplating running for Senate.”
Lake, a huge supporter of former President Donald Trump, said Arizona has two “hardcore” liberal senators in Sinema and Mark Kelly who vote “93% to 100% of the time” to back the policies of President Joe Biden.
“Arizona is not all about what Joe Biden is about,” Lake said. “Arizona is seriously depressed about what Joe Biden is doing to our country, so I'm giving it some thought. I might run for U.S. Senate. I'll make up my mind here in the next few months, and once I do, if I decide to jump in, I'll jump in with both feet and I'll fight to make sure we win and get a U.S. Senate seat back.”
Diving into something with both feet is emblematic of Lake’s first book, “Unafraid: Just Getting Started,” which chronicles her life from growing up as the youngest of nine children in rural Iowa to becoming a standard-bearer of the America First movement.
“It talks about the America First movement and the agenda to turn our country around and how we move forward,” Lake said. “We're in such a perilous moment in our history, and there is a way to move forward, and a lot of it is going back and looking back at our history and all those hills that we surrendered and also all the times when we did the right thing and fought for our ideals, and that is a good guideline of how we can move forward.”
Trump wrote the forward to her book.
“I know he's busy, and I asked him to do it,” Lake said. “He thought about it and came back and said yes. I think when you read the foreword to my book, you can actually hear President Trump's voice in that foreword.”
