Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared to attempt a lighthearted moment at the G-7 Summit on Friday when he presented President Donald Trump with a framed photograph of a Canadian hotel and brothel once owned by Trump's grandfather, the Washington Examiner reported.
White House press secretary tweeted a photo of the moment, saying, "Great moment between @JustinTrudeau and @POTUS when he gave him picture of the President's grandfather's hotel in Canada. #G72018."
The Artic Restaurant and Hotel, opened by Friedrich Trump in 1897, was one of the first properties in what would become the family's real estate empire. Trump has denied the hotel, which opened during the Klondike Gold Rush, was ever operated as a brothel.
However, according to a report in 2016 by Bloomberg, the hotel indeed operated as a brothel with an advertisement that described it as open round-the-clock featuring "private boxes for ladies and parties," with scales to weigh gold dust used by customers to pay for "services."
The G-7 meeting is taking place Friday and Saturday in Quebec, Canada, where leaders from the United States, the U.K., Canada, Germany, France, Italy and Japan are meeting to discuss issues including world trade, climate change and clean energy, economic growth and world peace.
