Amid The Guardian report that Paul Manafort met with Julian Assange inside London's Ecuadorian Embassy multiple times between 2013 and 2016, WikiLeaks issued a $1 million bet to the paper and its editorial head that the meeting(s) never took place.
"Remember this day when the Guardian permitted a serial fabricator to totally destroy the paper's reputation," WikiLeaks tweeted Tuesday morning. "@WikiLeaks is willing to bet the Guardian a million dollars and its editor's head that Manafort never met Assange."
According to the report Tuesday, Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, allegedly held several secret talks with the WikiLeaks' Assange around the time he joined the Trump team. Then, per the report, months after a meeting with Manafort, WikiLeaks released emails hacked from the Democratic National Committee by Russian intelligence officers.
Manafort reportedly violated his plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller by lying to prosecutors, and now this report and WikiLeaks' $1 million denial has come forward.
"This is going to be one of the most infamous news disasters since Stern published the 'Hitler Diaries,'" WikiLeaks tweeted about 30 minutes after the tweet above.
The Hitler Diaries were a series of journals assumed to have been written by German Dictator Adolf Hitler, but were discovered to have been fake.
