Rep. John Ratcliffe, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said on Wednesday that it's agreed that the Democrats' call for Corey Lewandowski to testify was a disaster.
"When CNN says the House Democrats had a bad day, that tells you what a disaster it really was," the Texas Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "Democrats were arguing what to call it, an impeachment probe or proceeding or inquiry, much less have a coherent strategy doing it. They're desperate to be the party of impeachment and they are stretching their credibility and basically saying if President (Donald) Trump said it or did it, it must be a crime. The American people saw that yesterday in the hearing."
Ratcliffe said he doesn't think Democrats on the committee know what the next step will be, as there is no coherent strategy.
"The Democrats are fighting amongst themselves what to do," he said. "They really don't know. They just know they hate Donald Trump and whether it's impeachment by collusion, by conspiracy, by the president using a Sharpie on a national weather map they want to get the president and bring in whatever witnesses they think will help them to that extent. But it just is not working and they are failing miserably in front of the American people."
Meanwhile, there is a "schism" between Democrats on strategy, including whether Judiciary Committee head Jerry Nadler is following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's instructions, and Democrats are clearly not united, said Ratcliffe.
"Yesterday was a great example of the fact that Democrats, because they are fighting about impeachment amongst themselves, are not focused on providing solutions to the problems that we could be dealing with, immigration, healthcare, everything else," said Ratcliffe.
