MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough has released a music video centered around the #AmnestyDon Twitter hashtag he created earlier this week, and it pokes fun at Donald Trump for his supposedly evolving stance on immigration.
Scarborough wrote in a Facebook post that the song is "about Donald Trump's battle with premature softening."
Set to music by a Dutch band Scarborough would not name, the song doesn't pull any punches.
"From out of the west rode a soft and flaccid man. With fear in his eyes and a burnt orange tan. He said he'd build a wall for us but then he up and ran. When the cowboys smell the dirty con, #AmnestyDon," the first verse sounds.
"He said he'd deport Mexicans before they raped our wives. And ban a billion Muslims before they took white lives. But then he won the primary and his courage took a dive. When the cowboys smell the dirty con, #AmnestyDon."
Scarborough was highlighting Trump's perceived immigration shift. Critics say his policy has changed from deporting all illegal immigrants living in the United States to essentially offering a path to legal status for those who are not breaking any laws, aside from the immigration laws they broke by coming to the U.S.
The song continues:
"He's softening, is there a pill for that? #AmnestyDon.
"He's waffling, his courage just went splat. When the cowboys smell the dirty con, #AmnestyDon.
"The cowboys and their kinfolk they finally understand. That #AmnestyDon was never sticking to his plan. Now they'd love to string him up by his tiny little hands. When the cowboys smell the dirty con, #AmnestyDon.
"He's softening, is there a pill for that? #AmnestyDon.
"He's waffling, his courage just went splat. When the cowboys smell the dirty con, #AmnestyDon."
The song concludes with a play on the disclaimer message that occurs at the end of medical commercials:
"If you take medication for premature softening, don't take it for your softening if you suffer from psychiatric abnormalities, like being a sociopath, a psychopath, or narcissism, nativism, racism, or flip-floppery, or if you just think your daughter's really, really hot in a way that creeps everybody else out."
